Collision and Structural Repair in Yorba Linda

Collision and structural repair covers everything that restores a damaged vehicle to its original dimensional and structural integrity. At OCRV Center in Yorba Linda that means impact repair, frame and chassis straightening, unibody correction, and fiberglass or aluminum structural panel work, all performed in shop on measuring equipment.

Structural damage is different from cosmetic damage in one way that matters: a cosmetic repair makes the vehicle look right, and a structural repair makes it measure right. On a motorhome or a fifth wheel those are not the same job and they do not carry the same price.

Every structural repair here starts with measurement. We establish where the vehicle currently sits against factory dimensions before anyone picks up a tool, because the number that comes off the measuring system is what determines whether this is a two day panel job or a three week rebuild.

What counts as structural damage on an RV or trailer

On a passenger car the structure is the unibody. On recreational vehicles the answer is more complicated because most coaches are built as a chassis with a house attached, and the two fail independently.

Chassis structure means the frame rails, crossmembers, outriggers and suspension mounting points. House structure means the sidewall framing, roof trusses, floor framing and the laminated skin that ties them together. A hit hard enough to move the frame usually also cracks the house, and a hit that only damages the house can still leave the coach unsafe to tow or drive if a slide rail or a floor member is involved.

  • Frame rail bend, twist, sag or diamond
  • Crossmember and outrigger fracture
  • Sidewall framing separation from the floor or roof
  • Roof truss deflection after impact or a rollover
  • Slide rail mounting point failure
  • Laminated panel delamination extending into the framing

How measurement determines the repair path

We measure against published factory specifications before disassembly, again after teardown once hidden damage is exposed, and a third time after pulling to confirm the vehicle has returned to spec. That third measurement is what a carrier is actually paying for on a structural claim.

The measurement record is also the document that protects you later. If a vehicle is sold or traded, a dated pre and post repair dimensional record is the difference between a documented structural repair and an undisclosed one.

Why the price range on structural work is so wide

The published range on collision repair runs from about a thousand dollars to well past a hundred thousand, and customers reasonably ask how one line item covers that much ground. The answer is that the first hour of teardown determines everything.

A rear cap scuff on a Class C is a bonded panel repair, a blend, and a clear. The same impact on a diesel pusher that pushed the rear cap into the generator bay and tweaked the frame is a different vehicle. Nobody, including a carrier adjuster, can price the second job from a photograph. That is why teardown comes before a final number, and why supplements exist.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you know if the frame is bent without tearing the vehicle apart?

We take reference measurements at accessible datum points first. If those read within tolerance and the vehicle tracks correctly, structural work may not be needed. If they read out, teardown is the only way to find out how far the damage travels.

Can a bent RV frame be straightened or does it have to be replaced?

Most frame damage is repairable. Steel frame rails can be pulled back to spec and reinforced. Replacement is reserved for cases where the metal is torn, previously repaired badly, or corroded to the point that it will not hold a pull.

Does insurance cover structural repair on a motorhome?

Collision coverage generally does when the damage came from an impact. What carriers routinely underestimate is how much structural work a coach impact actually generates, which is why documented measurement and a properly written supplement matter so much.

How long does a structural repair take?

Published hours on this page run from 5 to over 800. Calendar time is longer than shop time because carrier approval and parts availability sit between the stages. A typical structural claim runs three to eight weeks end to end.
