Specialty and Electric Vehicle Repair in Yorba Linda

Electric and hybrid vehicles change two things about body repair: high voltage disable procedure precedes any work, and on most platforms the battery pack is structural. Both are procedural rather than difficult, and both add time to the front of a job.

Electric vehicles are becoming a normal part of the workload rather than an exception, particularly on the fleet side. The body repair itself is largely conventional. What is not conventional is everything that happens before it starts.

There is also a boundary here that matters: pack assessment is not body shop work, and we say so rather than blurring it.

What is procedurally different on an EV?

High voltage disable per manufacturer procedure, before anything else. That is not a formality and there is no shortened version of it. It adds time at the start of the job and again at the end when the system is re enabled and verified.

On some platforms there are also restrictions on where heat can be applied and how close welding can occur to pack or cabling routes, which affects repair method selection.

Where does body work stop and pack work begin?

Any impact to the underside, floor pan or pack enclosure gets flagged for assessment by the appropriate party before we proceed. A pack that has taken an impact can be damaged internally with no external indication, and that is not something a body shop can evaluate.

What we do is body, panel, structural body and refinish work once the vehicle is confirmed safe to work on. Being explicit about that boundary protects everybody, including the next person who drives the vehicle.

What does this mean for a fleet running EVs?

Slightly longer per unit downtime, and worth planning for. High voltage procedure at both ends of the job typically adds time that a diesel equivalent does not carry.

The upside is that EV body panels and structure are otherwise conventional, so the actual repair work is not slower. It is the procedural bracket around it that adds calendar.

Our Process and Timeline

Shop hours and calendar days are different things. These are the stages and the realistic duration of each.

  1. 01

    High voltage disable

Manufacturer specified disable procedure performed and verified before any work begins.

    0.5 to 1 day
  2. 02

    Assess and flag

Damage assessed. Any underside, floor pan or pack involvement is flagged for assessment by the appropriate party.

    1 day
  3. 03

    Body and structural repair

Conventional panel, structural body and sectioning work at factory designated locations.

    3 to 20 days
  4. 04

    Refinish

Refinish with blend into adjacent panels, respecting any temperature restrictions the platform specifies.

    3 to 8 days
  5. 05

    Re enable and recalibrate

High voltage system re enabled and verified, then ADAS scan and recalibration where equipped.

    1 to 2 days

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you repair electric vehicles?

Yes, for body, panel, structural body and refinish work, following manufacturer high voltage procedure. We do not assess or repair battery packs.

Are you certified by Rivian or Tesla?

No, and we do not claim to be. We perform conventional body and structural body repair following manufacturer procedure. Where a repair requires certified programme access, that is a certified shop.

Does EV body repair cost more?

Modestly, mostly from high voltage procedure time at both ends. The panel and structural work itself prices conventionally.

What if the battery pack was hit?

It gets flagged for assessment by the appropriate party before we proceed. A pack can be internally damaged with no external indication, and that evaluation is not body shop work.
