Frame and Structural Repair in Yorba Linda
Frame and structural repair returns a bent, twisted or fractured chassis to factory dimensions. We measure against published specification, pull or section the affected members, then re measure to confirm tolerance. Work runs $750 to $20,000 and up at 5 to 80 or more labor hours.
A frame is either within tolerance or it is not, and the only way to know is to measure it. Everything else is opinion.
That sounds obvious and it is routinely skipped, because measuring properly means putting the vehicle on equipment and taking time before any billable repair happens. We do it on every structural job, and the before and after record goes home with the customer.
How do you know if an RV or trailer frame is bent?
Symptoms come before measurement, and they are consistent enough to be diagnostic. Uneven tire wear that returns after alignment. A slide that used to seal and no longer does. Doors that bind at one corner. A trailer that dog tracks behind the tow vehicle. A gap at a body seam that is wider at one end than the other.
Any one of those justifies measurement. Two or more together and the frame has almost certainly moved.

What actually goes wrong with RV and trailer frames?
Four failure modes account for nearly all of it. Bend, where a rail is deflected in one plane. Twist, where the frame is rotated along its length. Sag, where the rail has yielded downward under sustained load, common on heavily loaded fifth wheels. Diamond, where the frame has gone out of square in plan view, typically from an off centre impact.
A fifth mode matters specifically on towables: crossmember and outrigger fracture from flex fatigue. That one is not an impact failure at all. It is thousands of miles of road input on an under specified member, and it usually presents as a floor that feels soft in one area long before anyone thinks to look at the frame.
Can a bent frame be repaired, or does it have to be replaced?
Most frames are repairable. Steel responds well to controlled pulling and it can be sectioned and reinforced where the metal is compromised.
Replacement is reserved for three cases: the metal is torn rather than deformed, corrosion has reduced section thickness to where it will not hold a pull, or a previous repair was done badly enough that the metallurgy is unreliable. We tell you which case you are in after measurement, not before.

Our Process and Timeline
Shop hours and calendar days are different things. These are the stages and the realistic duration of each.

Measurement
The vehicle is measured at every accessible datum point and compared against factory specification. Nothing is repaired before this is complete.
- 021 to 3 days
Access and teardown
Skirting, belly pan and any assemblies blocking access to the affected members are removed.
- 032 to 10 days
Correction
The frame is anchored and pulled in controlled stages, with measurement between each stage rather than at the end.
- 042 to 8 days
Reinforcement and repair
Compromised sections are cut out and spliced, and reinforcement is added where the original section proved inadequate.

Verification and reassembly
Final measurement confirms tolerance, protective coating is applied, and the vehicle is reassembled.
Common Problems and How We Solve Them
My trailer dog tracks and an alignment did not fix it.
SolutionAlignment adjusts axles. If the frame is diamonded, no axle adjustment will square the vehicle. Measurement identifies which one it is in an afternoon.
The floor in my fifth wheel feels soft in one spot.
SolutionFrequently a fractured crossmember rather than a floor problem. We inspect the frame under that area before anyone opens up the flooring.
A shop welded a plate over the crack and it cracked again.
SolutionA plate over a fatigue crack moves the stress riser, it does not remove it. Correct repair means removing the cracked section, splicing in new material, and addressing why the member was overloaded.

Is a repaired frame as strong as the original?
A properly sectioned and reinforced frame is generally stronger at the repair than it was originally, because reinforcement is added where the original section proved inadequate. It is measured back to factory dimension either way.
Do I get proof the frame is straight?
Yes. Before and after dimensional records are supplied with the vehicle. That record is what protects you on resale and disclosure.
Can you repair an aluminum trailer frame?
Yes, though aluminum is less tolerant of pulling than steel and more often requires sectioning. We assess which approach the material calls for.
Does insurance cover frame repair?
Under collision coverage when the damage came from an impact. Fatigue cracking from normal use is generally not covered, which is a maintenance issue rather than a claim.
