Arms take the wind load, the fabric tension and the whole weight of the assembly. When an awning stops working properly the arms are the first place to look, not the motor.

Why will my awning not retract properly?
Because a bent arm changes the path the assembly has to travel, and either it binds or the motor stalls trying to complete a movement the geometry no longer allows.
Spring tension is the other cause. Springs relax with age, and an awning without adequate tension will not roll evenly, which shows as fabric bunching to one side and as a roller that will not seat.

What can be repaired and what has to be replaced?
Bent tubes can frequently be straightened or replaced individually. Worn pivots take new bushings. Relaxed springs get replaced. All of that is repair work at the lower end of the range.
Cracked castings are different. A casting that has cracked has lost its strength and welding cast alloy in a load bearing awning application is not something we will represent as durable. Those get replaced, and where several are cracked a full assembly frequently makes better economic sense.
