Travel Trailer and Towable Repair in Yorba Linda
Towable trailers hitch at the bumper or a ball coupler and carry their entire load on their own axles. That makes suspension, axle and frame condition central to every repair. Trailer work runs $250 for a coupler repair to $20,000 and up for structural welding.
A towable trailer has no engine, no cab and no chassis in the truck sense. It has a welded ladder frame, two or three axles, and a house built on top. Everything that goes wrong falls into one of those three areas, and telling them apart at intake is most of the diagnostic value.
The other thing that separates trailers is how varied the construction is. The same category holds a 32 foot laminated fiberglass travel trailer, an aluminum stick and tin bunkhouse, a steel framed toy hauler with a ramp door, and a flat deck utility trailer. Those are four different repairs sharing one word.
What is the difference between laminated and stick and tin trailers?
Laminated construction bonds a fiberglass outer skin to a substrate, foam block insulation and aluminum framing in a heated press. The result is lighter, stiffer and smoother, and it fails by delamination when water breaks the bond. Repair means opening the panel, replacing the substrate and rebonding, at $750 to $18,000 across 5 to 80 hours.
Aluminum stick and tin construction hangs corrugated aluminum sheet over a wood or aluminum stud wall with fiberglass batt insulation. It is heavier, it flexes more, and it does not delaminate because nothing is bonded. When it leaks, the water goes straight to the studs and the insulation, and the repair is framing replacement plus reskinning rather than laminate work.
Neither is better in the abstract. What matters is knowing which one you have, because the estimate line, the labor hours and the failure mode are all different. We identify it at intake by skin profile, seam construction and a substrate check.

How often do trailer axles and brakes actually need work?
More often than owners expect, because trailer suspension has no shock absorbers and the bearings live in a sealed hub that nobody looks at. Dexter and AL KO axles are rated for a service life that assumes annual bearing repack, and most trailers arrive here having never had one.
Bearing repack and hub service runs $250 to $1,200. Electric brake and axle service runs $300 to $5,500 across 1 to 20 hours. Full suspension service on leaf, torsion or air ride runs $400 to $6,500. A bent axle from a curb strike is not repairable by straightening, it is replaced, at $500 to $5,500.
The reason this belongs on a body shop page is that a failed bearing seizes a hub, and a seized hub at highway speed takes the fender, the sidewall and often the wheel well framing with it. That is a body repair caused by a maintenance item.
What do carriers miss on trailer claims?
Frame damage from a low speed jackknife. A trailer that gets folded against the tow vehicle at a boat ramp or a fuel island commonly bends the A frame tongue without any visible body damage, and the claim gets written for a scuffed front cap. We measure the tongue and coupler alignment on every impact claim for that reason.
Also underclaimed: interior contents shifting during an impact, which cracks cabinet mounts and wall to floor joints that only present after the trailer is towed again. And on toy haulers, the garage floor tie down system, which routinely takes damage that nobody inspects because it is under the cargo.

Common Problems and How We Solve Them
The trailer pulls to one side and wears one tire.
SolutionThat is axle alignment or a bent spindle, not a tire problem. We measure axle squareness to the frame and correct the cause, because a new tire on a misaligned axle wears out the same way.
Water is coming in above a slide or a window but the roof looks fine.
SolutionMost trailer leaks enter at a sidewall penetration, not the roof field. We pressure test and trace the entry point rather than recoating a roof that was never the source.
A wheel bearing seized and took out the fender and sidewall.
SolutionWe repair the body damage and replace the running gear together, and we repack the remaining hubs, because the one that failed is rarely the only one that was dry.
