RV and Camper Fiberglass Repair in Yorba Linda

RV and camper fiberglass repair covers cap and sidewall work on laminated coaches. Front and rear cap repair runs $750 to $12,000 and up at 4 to 60 labor hours, with cap replacement running $4,500 to $25,000 and up when repair is no longer viable.

Caps take the damage. The front cap collects road debris, low branches and everything the coach hits at height. The rear cap collects backing incidents, tow bar strikes and the results of every parking manoeuvre that went slightly wrong.

They are also the most complicated fiberglass on the vehicle: compound curves, moulded in features, embedded lighting and antenna penetrations, and a bonded seam to the sidewall running the full perimeter.

Repair or replace the cap?

The deciding factor is whether the damage crosses a compound curve or a moulded feature.

Damage in a flat or single curvature area repairs well and invisibly. Damage across a compound curve is harder because the repair has to reproduce a shape in three dimensions, and damage through a moulded feature such as a light housing recess or a marker pocket usually cannot be reproduced convincingly at all.

Cost is the other input. Cap repair runs $750 to $12,000 and up. Cap replacement runs $4,500 to $25,000 and up. When a repair estimate approaches sixty percent of replacement, replacement is normally the better outcome because it eliminates the risk of a visible repair on a highly visible surface.

How do you match gelcoat on a sun faded coach?

You do not match to the original colour, you match to the current one.

A ten year old coach in Southern California has lost a meaningful amount of pigment and gloss. Spraying factory colour next to that produces a repair that is obviously newer than the vehicle. We colour match to the panel as it sits today and then blend outward into adjacent panels so there is no boundary line.

On heavily faded coaches the honest recommendation is sometimes to refinish the whole side rather than blend, because a blend into severely oxidised gelcoat will show as the surrounding surface continues to degrade.

What about cracks around windows and slide openings?

Those are stress cracks and they are a symptom, not the problem.

A crack radiating from the corner of a window or a slide opening means the panel is flexing more than the laminate can absorb at that discontinuity. Filling the crack without addressing why the panel flexes produces a crack again in the same place within a year or two.

Correct repair means investigating the framing and the structure around that opening. Frequently the finding is a fatigued frame member, a failed bond nearby, or a slide mechanism that is loading the opening as it operates.

What Is Included

  • 01Tap testing and moisture metering across the full affected panel
  • 02Structural investigation where cracking radiates from an opening
  • 03Laminate repair with matched resin and reinforcement schedule
  • 04Compound curve reproduction where the damage crosses one
  • 05Gelcoat or paint colour matched to current vehicle condition
  • 06Blend into adjacent panels with no hard boundary
  • 07Perimeter seam resealing

Our Process and Timeline

Shop hours and calendar days are different things. These are the stages and the realistic duration of each.

  1. 01

    Map and assess

Tap test and moisture meter the panel, and investigate structure where cracks radiate from an opening.

  2. 02

    Repair versus replace decision

Repair and replacement figures produced so the decision is made against real numbers.

    1 day
  3. 03

    Substrate and laminate repair

Damaged laminate removed, substrate repaired, new laminate built up with a matched reinforcement schedule.

    2 to 15 days
  4. 04

    Shape and fair

Compound curvature reproduced and the surface faired to the surrounding contour.

    1 to 8 days
  5. 05

    Refinish and blend

Colour matched to current condition, sprayed and blended into adjacent panels.

    3 to 8 days
  6. 06

    Seal and deliver

Perimeter seams and penetrations resealed, final inspection, delivery.

Common Problems and How We Solve Them

The crack keeps coming back at the same window corner.

SolutionStructural flex at the opening, not a fiberglass problem. We investigate the framing and correct the cause before repairing the crack again.

The repair is visible in certain light.

SolutionUsually a repair that stopped at a panel seam instead of blending, or a colour match to factory code rather than current condition. Both are avoidable.

The cap has damage through a moulded light recess.

SolutionThose features rarely reproduce convincingly. We will normally recommend cap replacement and give you both figures so you can decide.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does RV cap repair cost?

Front and rear cap repair runs $750 to $12,000 and up at 4 to 60 labor hours. Cap replacement runs $4,500 to $25,000 and up at 30 to 120 hours.

Can you match my gelcoat colour?

Yes, matched to the vehicle as it currently sits rather than to the factory code, then blended into adjacent panels so there is no visible boundary.

How long does fiberglass cap repair take?

One to three weeks typically. Laminate cure time and refinish cure time set the floor and cannot be compressed safely.

Is a fiberglass repair as strong as the original panel?

A properly built laminate repair with the correct reinforcement schedule is as strong or stronger locally. The risk is never strength, it is a repair that stopped short of the true debonded boundary.
