RV and Truck Dent Removal and Repair in Yorba Linda
Dent repair restores a deformed panel to its original shape. The method depends entirely on substrate. Steel and aluminum panels with rear access can often be pushed or pulled. Laminated composite RV sidewalls have no rear access and are repaired by restoring the bond and rebuilding the surface.
The first question on any dent is not how big it is. It is what is behind it. A palm sized dent in a Sprinter panel and a palm sized dent in a laminated coach sidewall are unrelated repairs with unrelated prices, and the reason is access.
Metal has memory and can be persuaded back. A bonded composite skin does not, and pushing on it from the only side available drives the damage inward and widens the debonded area. Understanding that before touching the panel is most of the job.
Can paintless dent removal be used on an RV?
On some surfaces, yes. Painted steel and aluminum panels on van bodies, truck cabs, doors and compartment hatches are candidates where the metal is not creased, the finish is intact, and there is rear access for tooling. Under those conditions paintless repair is genuinely the better answer, because it preserves factory finish entirely.
On laminated RV sidewalls, almost never. There is no rear access. The skin is bonded to substrate which is bonded to framing, and the interior side of that assembly is a finished wall. Even where access exists, pushing a bonded skin outward separates it from its substrate and turns a cosmetic dent into a debond.
On aluminum sheet siding over framing, the answer is sometimes. Where the dent falls between framing members and the aluminum has not creased or work hardened, careful pulling from the outside can bring it back. Where it has creased, aluminum does not recover and the section gets replaced.
How do you repair a dent in a composite RV sidewall?
The first step is defining the actual damage area, which is larger than the visible one. Tap testing the perimeter reveals where the bond is intact and where it is not, by tone change. A moisture meter goes over the same area, because if the impact opened the skin at all, water has been getting in.
Where the bond has broken, the void is repaired before anything cosmetic happens. That means injecting adhesive into the void and drawing the skin back down against the substrate under controlled pressure, or where the area is too large or too wet, opening the skin and rebuilding the laminate. Which one applies depends on the size of the void and the moisture reading, and we tell you which one you are in after testing rather than before.
Only then does the surface get rebuilt. Laminate repair where the skin was breached, then filler in a shaping role, block sanded to the original contour, primed and refinished with a blend into the surrounding surface. The blend is usually the largest single line item, because a coach sidewall has no seam to stop the clear at.

What about hail damage on an RV?
Hail on a coach is a different problem than hail on a car because the roof is the most exposed surface and it is also the least accessible for repair. A fiberglass or EPDM roof taking hail can look survivable from the ground and be full of impact fractures that only show as leaks a year later.
On sidewalls, hail on aluminum sheet siding produces classic dimpling and is often repairable in place or by section replacement. On composite sidewalls, hail produces a field of small debonds, and repairing dozens of individual voids across a sidewall quickly costs more than refinishing that panel outright.
Because hail claims are almost always insurance work, documentation matters. Every impact gets counted and photographed against a marked grid, and the roof gets inspected separately from the sides, because carriers routinely write hail claims on visible sidewall damage while ignoring a roof that has been compromised.

Common Problems and How We Solve Them
Someone pushed my coach sidewall dent out from inside and now the area is soft.
SolutionThat pushed the skin off its substrate. The bond over a wide area is gone. We map the debond by tap testing and rebuild the laminate, which is a substantially larger repair than the original dent would have been.
My aluminum siding is dimpled from hail across one whole side.
SolutionSection replacement is usually the answer once the count gets high, because individually working dozens of dimples exceeds the cost of new sheet. We count and document everything first because this is normally an insurance claim.
A dent repair on my van looks fine but the paint cracked over it within a year.
SolutionFiller applied too thick over a panel that was never brought back to shape. The filler and the metal move at different rates. Correct repair means working the metal back first and using filler only to finish.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does dent repair cost on an RV?
Simple single dent work starts near the bottom of the $750 to $12,000 body repair band. What drives cost above that is blend distance and whether the bond under the dent has to be repaired, which is common on composite sidewalls and is invisible until tested.
Can a dent be fixed without touching the paint?
On metal panels with rear access and intact finish, sometimes. On bonded RV composite, essentially never, because the repair happens from the outside and involves the substrate rather than just the skin shape.
How do you know if a dent broke the bond underneath?
Tap testing. An intact bonded area returns a sharp tone and a debonded area returns a dull hollow one. The change is audible and it maps the void perimeter accurately in a few minutes.
Is hail damage on an RV worth claiming?
Usually yes, because hail affects the roof as well as the sides and roof damage is where the long term cost lives. We document impacts against a marked grid and inspect the roof separately, since carriers frequently write these claims off sidewall damage alone.
Will the repaired area be as strong as before?
On a properly repaired laminate, the bond is restored and the panel carries load again across the repair. On metal, a worked and correctly finished panel returns to shape. What does not restore strength is filler over an unrepaired void, which is exactly what we test for.
