RV and Truck Body Repair in Yorba Linda
Body repair restores the shape and integrity of exterior panels without touching structure. It covers dents, cracks, panel replacement, bumpers, fenders and quarter panels. Cab and body panel work runs $750 to $12,000 at 5 to 60 labor hours, all performed in shop in Yorba Linda.
Body repair on a truck cab and body repair on a motorhome sidewall are two different trades sharing a name. On a steel cab the panel is the part, it has a back side you can reach, and the metal has memory you can work with. On a laminated RV sidewall the panel is a sandwich bonded to framing, there is no back side to reach, and the outer skin is a fraction of a millimeter of fiberglass over foam.
That difference dictates method. Anyone who tries to pull an RV sidewall dent the way they would pull a fender ends up debonding a wider area than the original damage. The correct approach on composite is almost always to repair the bond and rebuild the surface, not to move the skin.
What is behind the panel, and why does it decide the repair?
Before we quote any body repair on an RV we establish the construction. A laminated sidewall is fiberglass or filon skin, adhesive, a substrate layer such as Azdel or lauan, then aluminum or wood framing, then interior paneling. The adhesive is what carries load across the surface, not the skin.
That means an impact can leave a mark you could cover with a hand while having broken the bond over an area two feet across. Tap testing the perimeter reveals it as a change in tone. Filling the visible mark and painting over a broken bond hides it for a season or two, then heat cycling grows the void and it presents as delamination, which is a repair an order of magnitude more expensive than the original damage.
On aluminum sided units the construction is different and so is the failure. Aluminum sheet over framing dents cleanly, work hardens where it creased, and can often be repaired or replaced in sections. On a fully monocoque aluminum shell such as an Airstream, the skin is structural and panel replacement is a riveting job with its own methodology entirely.
- Laminated composite sidewall: bond integrity decides the repair
- Smooth fiberglass sidewall: gelcoat and laminate repair, no metalwork
- Aluminum sheet over frame: dent repair or sectional panel replacement
- Monocoque aluminum shell: structural skin, riveted panel replacement
- Steel and aluminum truck cab: conventional metal repair with backside access
- ABS and TPO fascias: plastic welding, flexible filler and adhesion promoter
How much does body repair cost and what drives the range?
Cab and body repair covering doors, hoods, fenders and bumpers runs $750 to $12,000 at 5 to 60 labor hours. That is calculated at our posted $210 per hour body and paint rate plus $5 per hour body supplies and $55 per paint hour paint supplies.
What moves a job within that range is access and finish requirement. A steel truck fender with the inner liner out is straightforward metalwork. The same visible damage on a bonded fiberglass flare on a coach means bond assessment, laminate repair, filler and shaping to a compound curve, then a blend that may run six feet in every direction because there is no seam to stop at.
The other multiplier is parts availability. Truck body panels are generally available. RV body panels frequently are not, and the alternative is fabrication, which we do in house. A moulded fiberglass section reproduced from the opposite side of the same vehicle is a real solution and it is not a fast one.
Do you repair or replace?
Repair when the substrate is sound and the damage is within the material limits. Replace when the panel is torn, when the damage crosses too many compound curves to rebuild accurately, or when repair hours exceed the cost of the part plus its installation.
On RVs that calculation swings toward repair more often than people expect, because the parts frequently do not exist. On trucks and vans it swings toward replacement more often, because a stamped panel is cheap relative to the hours needed to bring damaged steel back to a shape that will not telegraph under paint.
The honest failure mode is over filling. A dent rebuilt in filler rather than repaired properly reads correctly on day one and shows every temperature cycle later as the filler and the substrate move at different rates. We hold filler to a shaping role over a properly repaired surface, not as the repair itself.
What Is Included
- 01Construction identification and tap testing of the impact perimeter
- 02Moisture readings where laminate involvement is suspected
- 03Metal, composite or plastic repair matched to the substrate
- 04Bond repair before any surface rebuilding on laminated panels
- 05Panel or section replacement, bonded, riveted or mechanically fastened
- 06In house fabrication of unavailable panels and sections
- 07Refinish with computerized color match and blend into adjacent surface
- 08Reseal of every joint and fastener disturbed during the repair
Our Process and Timeline
Shop hours and calendar days are different things. These are the stages and the realistic duration of each.
- 01Same day to 1 day
Damage assessment and construction survey
We identify the panel construction, tap test the impact perimeter and take moisture readings where laminate involvement is possible.
- 021 to 2 days
Repair or replace decision
Hours to repair are weighed against part availability and cost. On RVs, fabrication is frequently the alternative to a part that does not exist.
- 032 to 10 days
Substrate and bond repair
Broken bonds are repaired and structural backing restored before any shaping. On metal, the panel is worked back toward shape rather than buried in filler.
- 042 to 12 days
Panel or section fitment
Replacement panels or fabricated sections are fitted, aligned to adjacent gaps, and bonded or fastened per the original construction.
- 052 to 6 days
Surface finishing
Shaping, priming and block sanding to a surface that will not telegraph the repair under paint.
- 062 to 6 days
Refinish and blend
Color matched to the vehicle as it sits, sprayed in a downdraft booth and blended into the adjacent surface to a legitimate break.
- 071 to 2 days
Reassembly and inspection
Hardware and trim reinstalled with new sealant at every disturbed joint, then a daylight inspection before release.
Common Problems and How We Solve Them
A dent was filled and painted and now there is a bubble around it.
SolutionThe bond under the repair was broken and never addressed. We remove the filler, establish the true extent of the debond by tap testing, repair the bond, then rebuild and refinish the surface.
The panel I need has been discontinued for fifteen years.
SolutionWe fabricate. Fiberglass sections are moulded off the opposite side of the same vehicle or off a pattern, and aluminum is formed in house. It is slower than ordering a part and it is a real repair rather than a compromise.
My repaired panel looks fine in winter and shows an outline in summer.
SolutionFiller and substrate expanding at different rates, which happens when filler is doing structural work. The fix is to remove it, repair the underlying panel properly, and use filler only for final shaping.
The truck cab door gaps are uneven after a previous repair.
SolutionPanel alignment was set to the damaged reference rather than to the opposite side. We measure gaps against the undamaged side and reset the fitment before any refinish work happens.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does RV body repair cost in Yorba Linda?
Cab and body panel repair runs $750 to $12,000 at 5 to 60 labor hours at our posted $210 per hour body and paint rate. Simple bumper and fender work sits at the bottom, multi panel composite repair with fabrication sits at the top.
What is the difference between body repair and collision repair?
Body repair addresses panels. Collision repair is the broader process that includes structural measurement, carrier documentation and system restoration. A hit that only damaged skin is body work. A hit that moved a datum point is a collision claim.
Can you repair a dent without repainting?
Sometimes on metal panels with intact finish, using paintless methods where access allows. On composite RV sidewalls the skin is bonded to substrate with no rear access, so repairs go through fill and refinish almost every time.
Do you work on commercial trucks and fleet vehicles?
Yes. Semi tractors, box trucks, cargo trailers, utility bodies and municipal fleet vehicles all come through the same 35,000 square foot facility at the same posted rates.
How do I know if my damage involves structure?
If a door, window, slide or compartment no longer closes the way it did, or if the damage sits at a corner or a slide opening, assume structure may be involved and have it measured. Panel damage away from openings usually is not.
