RV Slide-Out Repair in Yorba Linda
A slide-out is a room that moves through a hole in a structural wall, and almost every slide complaint traces back to that opening being out of square rather than to the mechanism. Mechanism service runs $500 to $8,500 and up at 3 to 35 labor hours.
Slide-outs get replaced parts thrown at them constantly. Motors, controllers, seals, rollers. Frequently none of that was the problem, because a slide binding against an opening that has moved will destroy whatever component is weakest and then destroy its replacement.
We measure the opening first. It is the single diagnostic step that separates a slide fixed once from a slide fixed repeatedly.
Why does the opening geometry matter more than the mechanism?
Because the mechanism only has to overcome the friction it was designed for. A slide room that has to force its way through a racked opening is fighting far more than that, and the mechanism is the part that gives.
Openings move for several reasons. Chassis flex over years, a coach stored on uneven ground, water damage softening the floor around the opening, and impact. All produce the same symptom, which is a slide that has become hard to move or that stalls partway.
- Slide stalling partway or moving unevenly
- Motor or controller failure recurring after replacement
- Uneven gap at the top or one side when extended
- Seals that will not compress evenly
- Interior floor or wall damage at the slide opening
- Visible racking in the opening corners
What are the main slide system types and how do they differ?
Through frame hydraulic and electric rack and pinion systems carry the room on rails under the floor. They are strong, they handle heavy rooms, and their failures are usually hydraulic or rail related.
Schwintek and similar in wall systems drive the room from vertical tracks in the sidewall. They are lighter and simpler, and they are far less tolerant of any misalignment, which is why in wall slides show geometry problems earliest and most severely.
Cable driven systems fall between the two. Cable stretch and pulley wear are the characteristic failures, and both are progressive rather than sudden.
What does slide work cost at posted rates?
Mechanism service and repair $500 to $8,500 and up at 3 to 35 labor hours. Seal and gasket replacement $400 to $3,000 at 2 to 14 hours. Slide room rebuild and structural repair $1,500 to $7,500 at 10 to 35 hours. Motor and gear replacement $450 to $4,500 at 3 to 18 hours.
Mechanical and electrical work is at our posted $260 per hour rate. Diagnostics are $285 per hour with a one hour minimum, refundable as a credit against an authorized repair.

Report and priced plan
Findings separated into geometry, mechanism and seal work, each priced at posted rates.
- 053 to 20 days
Authorized repair
Geometry corrected first where required, then mechanism, then seals, in that order.
Common Problems and How We Solve Them
The slide motor has been replaced twice and it failed again.
SolutionThe motor is a symptom. Something is loading it beyond design, almost always a racked opening or a binding rail. We measure the opening before selling a third motor.
New seals were fitted and it still leaks.
SolutionA seal cannot bridge an uneven gap. If the opening or the room is out of plane, seals compress unevenly and leak at the loosest point regardless of how new they are.
The slide floor is soft at the edge.
SolutionWater has been entering at the floor to slide joint, usually for a long time. That is structural repair at $1,500 to $7,500, and the entry point gets fixed first.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does RV slide-out repair cost?
Mechanism service $500 to $8,500 and up at 3 to 35 labor hours. Seals $400 to $3,000. Structural rebuild $1,500 to $7,500. Motor and gear $450 to $4,500. Mechanical and electrical work is at $260 per hour.
My slide motor keeps failing. Why?
Because something is loading it beyond design, usually a racked opening or a binding rail. Replacing the motor without correcting that produces another failed motor.
Do you work on Schwintek in wall slides?
Yes. In wall systems are the least tolerant of misalignment, which is why we measure the opening first on those in particular.
Can a slide be repaired with the room out?
Where the mechanism has failed with the room extended, yes, and that is a common scenario. It is also a reason to call rather than force it, because forcing a stalled slide turns a mechanism repair into a structural one.
Do you charge to diagnose a slide problem?
An RV systems estimate is $150 and is refundable as a credit against an authorized repair. Diagnostics beyond that are $285 per hour with a one hour minimum, also refundable as a credit.
