RV Slide Room Structural Repair in Yorba Linda

Slide room structural repair addresses soft floors, racked rooms and the opening they move through. It runs $1,500 to $7,500 at 10 to 35 labor hours, and it is the repair that has to happen before mechanism or seal work will hold.

A slide room is a box that has to stay square while being pushed through a hole. When it stops being square, nothing else about the slide works, and no amount of mechanism or seal work changes that.

This is the repair people are quoted last and need first.

What makes a slide floor go soft?

Water entering at the floor to slide joint, which is the lowest point of the whole slide assembly and where everything eventually runs. It is also a joint that flexes every time the room moves.

The damage progresses from the outer edge inward and it is frequently well advanced before it is felt underfoot, because the flooring above it holds shape. By the time it is obvious the substrate across a wide area is usually gone.

  • Soft floor at the outer slide edge progressing inward
  • Room racking out of square, visible as an uneven gap
  • Frame cracking at the slide room corners
  • Opening racking in the main sidewall
  • Wall to floor separation inside the room
  • Fasteners no longer holding in the slide floor edge

How is a racked room corrected?

Measured, corrected and reinforced. The room is measured diagonally to establish how far out of square it is, corrected back and then reinforced at whichever corner failed, because a corner that racked once will rack again at the same specification.

The opening gets the same treatment. Both have to be right, because a square room in a racked opening binds exactly as badly as the reverse.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does slide room structural repair cost?

$1,500 to $7,500 at 10 to 35 labor hours at our posted $210 per hour body and paint rate. Extent of floor substrate damage is what drives it.

My slide floor is soft at the edge.

Water has been entering at the floor to slide joint. The affected substrate is almost always wider than it feels, and the entry point gets corrected as part of the repair.

Can a racked slide room be corrected?

Yes, measured diagonally, corrected and reinforced at the corner that failed. Reinstating the original specification produces the same racking again.

Should this be done before mechanism work?

Yes, always. A mechanism installed into a racked assembly is being destroyed from the moment it is fitted.
