Rivian R1S Body Repair in Yorba Linda

The R1S shares the R1T platform but with an enclosed body rather than a separate bed, which changes structural behaviour. The rear structure is continuous, so rear impacts transfer load further forward than they would on the pickup.

Same platform, different body, meaningfully different structural behaviour. The R1S has a continuous enclosed rear structure where the R1T has a bed, and that changes how a rear impact distributes.

Everything else about the repair, high voltage procedure, aluminum isolation, pack considerations and ADAS, carries across.

Rivian R1S rear structure being measured after a rear impact

How does the enclosed body change a rear impact?

On the pickup, a rear impact into the bed has a degree of isolation from the cabin structure. On the R1S the rear structure is continuous with the body, so force travels further forward and shows up at the D pillar and roof rail area.

That means measurement extends further from the point of impact on an R1S rear hit than it would on an R1T. We check datum points forward of where the damage appears.

What else is different in practice?

Glass area, mostly. The R1S has substantially more glazing, and on a structural repair the openings have to come back to tolerance or the glass will not seal and will stress crack.

Roof structure also matters more on an enclosed body, particularly on any rollover or roof strike assessment.

  • Rear impacts measured further forward than on the pickup
  • Glazing openings verified to tolerance before glass refit
  • Roof structure assessment on any roof or rollover damage
  • Aluminum work isolated with dedicated tooling
  • ADAS recalibration mandatory after structural work

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you repair Rivian R1S?

Body, panel, structural body and refinish work, following manufacturer high voltage procedure with aluminum isolation. We do not assess battery packs.

Is an R1S rear impact worse than an R1T?

Not worse, but it transfers load further forward because the rear structure is continuous with the body. We measure further from the impact point as a result.

Why does glass matter on a structural repair?

Because if the opening is out of tolerance the glass will not seal and will stress crack. Verifying openings before refitting glass avoids replacing it twice.

How much does R1S body repair cost?

The $1,500 to $40,000 and up collision band at 10 to 200 labor hours, plus $285 to $1,800 ADAS recalibration. Aluminum panels carry higher labor than steel equivalents.
