Vintage coach work is defined by parts that no longer exist. Where a panel is discontinued we mould a replacement from the mirrored side or a pattern, and fabricate structural members to original section. That capability is what makes restoration possible at all.
A shop that can only fit supplied parts cannot restore a coach whose manufacturer has been gone for forty years. That is the entire constraint on vintage work.
In shop at any given time there is usually something from the 1950s or 1960s alongside current model year vehicles, which is a reasonable indication of the range.
What happens when the part does not exist?
We make it. Fiberglass panels are moulded from the opposite side of the vehicle where the geometry mirrors, from a donor panel, or from a pattern taken off the vehicle. Aluminium skin is formed in house. Structural members are fabricated to match original section and gauge.
This is a substantial share of the labor on a vintage job and it is why panel replacement on a discontinued model can approach the cost of a much larger repair on a current one.

Should I insure a vintage coach differently?
Yes, on agreed value rather than actual cash value. On a vintage or restored coach, ACV comparables are close to meaningless and a carrier valuation will not reflect what you have in it.
Agreed value sets the figure at inception and removes the entire valuation argument, which on a restored vehicle is where every dispute otherwise happens. It cannot be added after a loss.

Can you restore a coach with no parts availability?

How long does a full restoration take?
Three to six months for most projects, longer where fabrication is extensive. We stage them with per phase scope and approval so nobody hands over a coach and a blank cheque.
Is restoration financially sensible?
Usually not, and we say so at assessment. It makes sense when the vehicle is irreplaceable, historically significant, or carries interior investment exceeding the shell value.
Will insurance pay for a restoration?
A carrier pays to repair covered damage, not to renew a vehicle. On agreed value policies covering collectible coaches the picture is better. We split the scope so the boundary between covered repair and owner funded restoration is explicit.
