Airstream Repair in Yorba Linda

OCRV Center repairs Airstream trailers and Interstate touring coaches at our Yorba Linda facility. An Airstream is a riveted aluminum monocoque, which means it repairs like an aircraft fuselage rather than like an RV, and the skill required is metalwork rather than lamination.

Nothing else in the RV world is built like an Airstream. The shell is the structure, formed aluminum panels riveted to aluminum ribs, and the skin carries load. There is no laminated wall, no substrate, no delamination.

That changes everything about the repair. Panel work is metal forming and riveting, not laminate work, and the failures are corrosion, rivet line fatigue and shell distortion rather than water in a substrate.

Why does an Airstream repair differently?

Because the skin is structural. On a laminated trailer you can cut out a panel and bond in a new one. On an Airstream, removing a panel removes structure, so the repair sequence has to maintain shell integrity while the panel is out.

Rivets matter too. An Airstream is held together by thousands of them, and the correct rivet type and installation in the correct hole size is what maintains both strength and the water seal. A rivet line repaired with the wrong fastener leaks and fatigues.

What actually fails on an Airstream?

Corrosion first, particularly on coastal vehicles and at any point where a steel fastener or bracket meets the aluminum shell. Galvanic corrosion in Orange County coastal air is genuinely common.

Then rivet line fatigue, where flexing over years works rivets loose and opens the seal. Then shell distortion from impact, which travels far beyond the visible damage because the skin is continuous. Completely different vehicle. An Airstream Interstate is a Mercedes Sprinter with an Airstream interior, so collision work is Sprinter unibody repair with ADAS involvement, measured and repaired to Mercedes specification.

The Airstream part is the interior, which is high quality and worth documenting carefully before any structural work begins.
