Repair for Construction and Trade Fleets

Construction fleets take site damage rather than road damage, which fails differently. Service bodies, racks, toolboxes and crane mounts all take load abuse, and the failures are usually fatigue at a mounting point rather than a single impact.

A construction fleet does not mostly get hit on the road. It gets damaged on site, by loads, by other equipment, and by being used harder than a spec sheet anticipated.

That produces a different failure profile and a different repair approach.

What fails on a construction fleet?

Mounting points, overwhelmingly. Service body attachment to the frame, rack mounting into the roof or bed rails, crane body mounts, toolbox brackets. All of them carry cyclic load and all of them fatigue at the weld or the fastener rather than in the middle of the member.

Plating over a fatigue crack is the standard field repair and it does not work. It relocates the stress riser to the plate edge and it cracks again there. Correct repair means removing the cracked section and splicing in new material, then addressing why the member was overloaded.

  • Service and utility body frame mounting fatigue
  • Rack and ladder rack mounting into roof or bed rails
  • Crane and toolbox bracket cracking
  • Bed and deck deformation from overload
  • Corner and side damage from site equipment contact
  • Corrosion at every mounting penetration

What equipment work do you do?

Service body and utility body installation at $2,500 to $15,000, toolbox and crane body installation at $1,500 to $10,000, headache racks and cab guards at $750 to $3,500, and lift gates at $1,500 to $8,500.

Installation is where we can prevent the next failure. Mounting designed for the actual load rather than the minimum specification is the difference between a repair and a recurring problem.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you install service bodies and racks?

Yes. Service and utility body installation runs $2,500 to $15,000 at 15 to 60 labor hours. Racks and toolboxes are less. Mounting is designed for actual load rather than minimum specification.

A previous shop plated a cracked mount and it cracked again.

Expected. A plate moves the stress riser to its own edge. Correct repair removes the cracked section, splices in new material, and reinforces where the original section was inadequate.

Can you repair corrosion around mounting points?

Yes. Rust treatment and anti corrosion coating runs $400 to $3,500. On a construction fleet the mounting penetrations are usually where corrosion starts.

Do you service the mechanical side of these trucks?

No. Body, paint, structural and equipment installation only. No engine, drivetrain or DOT inspection work.
