Mobile Medical Vehicle Repair and Build Out
Mobile medical vehicles carry the highest equipment value of any mobile business type, frequently several hundred thousand dollars of diagnostic and clinical equipment. Repair sequencing and equipment documentation both matter more here than anywhere else.
A mobile imaging unit or screening vehicle is a clinical facility on wheels, and the equipment inside can be worth many times the vehicle. That changes both the insurance position and how a repair has to be sequenced.
It also means the vehicle serving patients matters. Downtime is cancelled appointments, not lost convenience.
What is different about repairing a mobile clinic?
Equipment sensitivity and mounting. Diagnostic equipment is frequently vibration and shock sensitive, and the mounting that protects it in transit is engineered rather than improvised. Disturbing it for a body repair means it has to be correctly remounted, not just refitted.
Power systems are also more critical. A clinical vehicle usually has shore power, generator and inverter paths with clean power requirements the equipment depends on. Any electrical work has to respect that rather than treat it as a van wiring job.
- Vibration and shock sensitive equipment mounting
- Clean power requirements across shore, generator and inverter paths
- Interior surfaces specified for clinical cleaning
- Patient access, steps and lift equipment
- Climate control that the equipment depends on
- Structural repair without disturbing equipment calibration where possible
How should equipment value be handled on a claim?
Scheduled with itemised values and serial numbers, and reviewed whenever equipment changes. On a vehicle carrying several hundred thousand of diagnostic equipment, the difference between scheduled and unscheduled is not a detail.
We photograph and itemise at intake with serials where visible. That helps a claim considerably but it is not a substitute for the equipment being on the policy in the first place.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you repair a mobile clinic without disturbing the equipment?
Sometimes, depending on where the damage is. Where the equipment must come out, it is catalogued and remounted to the original specification rather than just refitted.
Do you build out mobile medical vehicles?
Yes. Interior build out runs $2,500 to $50,000 and up at 20 to 250 labor hours, and van based conversions run $5,000 to $80,000 and up. We build to your specification.
Are you certified for medical equipment installation?
No, and we do not claim to be. We perform the vehicle side: structure, mounting, power infrastructure and interior. Equipment commissioning and certification is for your equipment supplier.
How do we minimise downtime?
Tell us the operating constraint at first contact. Where the work can be split into phases that leave the vehicle serviceable in between, we will sequence it that way.
